Discover Skulptura 2022

Skulptura is one of the largest sculpture exhibitions in the German-speaking world. AR art is shown for the first time this year with Artworks of Sarah Montani X Aptiq.

"Humankind & Modernity" is the theme of this year's Skulptura. This year we give space to new developments in Sculpture.

Swiss artist Sarah Montani - together with her cousin Joey Montani (Aptiq) - has been experimenting with Augmented Reality (AR) for several years. Her spherical AR art (ARt) 'appears' in our familiar physical environment - but stays invisible for our eyes.

We can only perceive it through the eye of our smartphone camera. AR art is three-dimensional, non-touchable, odorless and weightless. It can be visualized in any place: on the water, among the clouds, in fragrant treetops. With two fingers the artworks can be enlarged, we can even enter them or take them with us to any place.

With the installations of her "Metaspheres" on the exterior surfaces of the site and in the interior spaces of the KU-BA Kunstbahnhof, Montani invites us to re-investigate our perception of reality. We just need a smartphone - and the curiosity to engage in unfamiliar experiences like the merging of analog and digital worlds.
