First exhibition connecting Inks and Augmented Reality

On Thu, 19.8.2021, artist Sarah Montani will celebrate the opening of her first exhibition with Live Augmented Reality (AR), which will physically take place at the premises of The Sabine Passeraub Gallery in Bern. With AR, her artworks can be directly visualized on one's own walls. She is also participating in the Swissartexpo for the first time. Her work combines ancient techniques with the possibilities of the digital world. She takes her audience on a time journey from the ancient Romans to the universe of Augmented Reality. This is evidenced by the video installation 'Intu Ink' created specifically for the Swissartexpo. It centers the act of creation and with her hybrid art, adds a new facet to the classic concept of art.

2018 marked a turning point in Montani's work: She focuses her energies and dedicates herself 100% to art. The knowledge from the digital corporate world now flows just as intensely into her art as her exploratory, future-oriented way of working.

Old Technique goes Digital

She rediscovers certain techniques and materials known since antiquity, such as beeswax (encaustic) and shellac, and combines them with modern fluid art. She finds new access to her inner creativity, for which she finds the perfect medium in these highly dynamic materials.

Montani directs her elements with fire and passion, without imposing her will. The creation of Montani's art, where she stirs the materials with air and heat, is among the most fascinating aspects of her work so far.

Creative Act in a Hybrid World

In her video work 'Intu Ink', she lets viewers participate in her creative flow, making them witnesses to her careful yet purposeful approach. The act of creation becomes sensually tangible. At the same time, she feels the contours of a new type of art form of tingling topicality. This refers to the coexistence of analog and digital experience and all the intermediate forms that have been shaping society and art, not just since the Corona crisis, but especially since then.

Life and Work

Sarah Montani was born in 1972 in Wallis. Alongside her studies, the aspiring lawyer recognizes the opportunities of the digital world. Creative in spirit and chasing the future, she establishes her own company, which has been among the most innovative and successful in the industry from the start. Parallel to this, Montani takes her first forays into the world of art. As a self-taught artist, she familiarizes herself with the oil technique and starts oil painting. From 2001, Montani moves away from a formal logic and understands art as a creative act she wants to initiate, allow, but not dominate. Experimentally and searchingly, she soon swaps the brush for the spatula and now the Bunsen burner.

She has organized 6 solo exhibitions in various regions of Switzerland.
